Sport

At Collingwood we like to take the approach that sport is for all. Every child gets the opportunity to find a sport in which they can grow and succeed in. We offer a plethora of different sports in hope to engage our future sportsmen and women.

In the autumn term children have the option of either football or netball. Football takes place at Old Walcountians Clockhouse Ground in Banstead and Netball takes place on our own court at Collingwood. Matches against other schools take place throughout the term and all children have the opportunity to represent the school if they wish. Alongside this children from year 2 upwards also take part in weekly swimming lessons.

In the spring term the children’s options increase and are introduced to rugby and hockey as well as indoor team games such as dodge ball.

In the summer term a further 3 sports are introduced to the children; cricket, rounders and short tennis. Cricket and rounders are played at Old Walcountians while short tennis takes place on our own lawn where 3 courts can be erected.

To prepare for the end of term sports day all children take part in athletics every week, learning different disciplines such as high jump, long jump, track running and ball throwing. Collingwood uses the recently renamed David Weir MBE sports centre, of which have excellent and professional resources.

The children are fortunate enough to have extremely enthusiastic staff, some of which are highly skilled at their chosen sport. For example, Gary Chivers is an ex-professional footballer who has years of playing and coaching experience at his finger tips to pass on to the children.

Collingwood has a tradition of excellence in sport and has enjoyed much success in tournaments and matches against other schools. We also pride ourselves in ensuring every child enjoys sport and is challenged to grow at their own speed and ability.
